Search Consultant
Associate Practice Group

Position Description

Our Associate Practice Group is recognised globally and is the market leader in New York. It is the firm’s intention to expand this group significantly over the next 3 years.

The team provides valued clients with retained search, ad/search and contingent search services, using search methodology and web-advertising to recruit the best and most suitable lawyers in the market. Where appropriate, we collaborate with our U.S. and Asia Pacific offices to search across borders.

A substantial part of our practice involves counseling associate candidates on how to achieve their career goals. We have special expertise advising candidates about U.S. law firms. Our consultants are trained to advise on local and global opportunities, including career advancement through working overseas. This includes helping British lawyers to gain career-advancing experience in New York, Hong Kong or Tokyo, and foreign lawyers to pursue opportunities in the UK and other overseas jurisdictions. Our team is well-versed in issues concerning foreign re-qualification, relocation and expatriate benefits.

Responsibilities

The Search Consultant will have responsibility for:

  • Working with the APG leader to maintain established client relationships and to develop relationships with new clients
  • Working closely with clients to identify their recruitment needs.
  • Using the MLA database to identify and source appropriate candidates for specific roles
  • Executing and closing contingent and retained search assignments
  • Identifying roles where advertising; ad-search or retained search is appropriate and viable and promoting this solution to clients.
  • Assisting with developing a database of candidates
  • Constantly developing own market knowledge, and sharing market intelligence with the APG

Experience

We hire entrepreneurial, team-spirited individuals who are committed to client service. It is our goal not just to close assignments but to deliver the right individual to our clients on every assignment. We are relationship, not transaction-driven, adopting a long-term, global approach to business development.

  • A qualified lawyer seeking a change of direction
  • Knowledge of and network within the London legal community
  • Strong client facing skills and a commitment to service, delivering results and ethics
  • Understanding of the importance of rigorously collecting and sharing market information, and the discipline to do so personally
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Organisational skills, including proven ability to prioritise and to follow up
  • Commercial acumen
  • Self-starter
  • Presence
  • A team player
  • Commitment to ethics, equal opportunity and diversity

The package for this position will be competitive and commensurate with skills and experience. It includes an attractive base salary, commission, a bonus based on team performance and for the right candidate a short-term partnership opportunity.
