Search Consultant

Position Description
Thinking of a career move? We have found that the ideal professional search consultant, known at MLA as a Managing Director, is smart, entrepreneurial, a "people" person who is seeking a good work/life balance. Our recruiters report that they enjoy the opportunity to leverage their legal education and experience but prefer to work more closely to help candidates and clients find the best match rather than practice law. They enjoy working hard and interacting with other smart, interesting people as clients, candidates and peers. Our search consultants focus on recruiting in the practice areas that fit their background: law firm associates; law firm partners; General Counsels or corporate counsel.

To learn more about our firm, we invite you to browse our website and client list as well as our recruiters' bios. We believe you will be impressed with the quality, credentials and experience of our team. For example:

  • Former partners at top law firms, like Jeffrey Lowe and John Cashman
  • Former GCs and in-house lawyers, like Paul Williams, Miriam Frank, Brian Davis and Lisa Rothblum
  • Former executive search professionals, like Natasha Innocenti, Mark Jungers and Sheri Michaels
  • Former law school career services and placement directors like Katy Montgomery and Tracy Zeleskey
  • Former business development professionals with legal industry experience, like Maggie Catbagan

Position qualifications include: a J.D. degree or prior legal search experience; a minimum of 2 to 5 years experience working in a large law firm, in-house law department, executive recruiting firm or top law school career services office; excellent interpersonal skills; strong writing skills; an entrepreneurial, risk-positive spirit; extraordinary dedication to client service and a demonstrated commitment to ethics.

Major, Lindsey & Africa hires search consultants of exceptional quality and professionalism, and their compensation (commission-based after an initial introductory period) has significant upside potential.
