Sonya Olds Som is a Managing Director in Major, Lindsey & Africa's (“MLA”) Chicago office and is primarily responsible for strategizing and leading business development and marketing initiatives for MLA’s In-House Practice Group, as well as for MLA’s sister company, Inside Edge Legal, in the Central Region. Sonya focuses on sourcing attorney search opportunities for attorneys at all levels – from junior counsel to General Counsels -- in corporate legal departments in a wide range of industries by creating and developing relationships with General Counsel, Human Resources leaders and other C-Suite executives.
Prior to joining MLA, Sonya focused her legal practice on the representation of small to large individual and business clients on a wide variety of corporate immigration-related matters. She has more than ten years of experience working as an immigration attorney at several national and regional law firms, including Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker; Butzel Long; Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Lowey; Dykema Gossett; and Laner Muchin where she served as Partner and Immigration Department Chair. In 2007, Sonya was named one of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin’s “40 Under 40”. Sonya has authored several articles and maintains a prolific social media presence. She was interviewed and quoted in the July 2009 issue of the Illinois State Bar Association's Illinois Bar Journal article "Twitter and Linkedin and Facebook. Oh My!" as well as in the same publication's August 2011 issue in the article “Tweeting the Law” regarding the emerging issues connected with social networking for attorneys.
