Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary

Teck American Incorporated is seeking to hire a Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary to provide a variety of general corporate and commercial legal services to in-house clients.

This position requires 8+ years of experience (sweet spot is 10-15) as a corporate generalist with good working knowledge of commercial contracts and indemnity issues and understanding of corporate governance. In-house experience is a plus.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work with and gain the trust of Teck executives and employees at all levels of the company. Compatibility and fit are of the utmost importance. This position must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision.

This position will have primary responsibility for overseeing the Company’s legal activities in the U.S. This position will review, analyze and advise on contracts for U.S. entities of parent company Teck. The VP, GC & Secretary of TAI will provide legal support to employees and executives at Red Dog Mine.

This position will:

• Oversee litigation in the U.S.
• Serve as Secretary and handle corporate governance for U.S. entities.
• Manage the use of outside counsel on various matters.
• Provide employment law advice to HR.
• Work with outside counsel and internal clients on various environmental and regulatory issues.
• Provide ongoing advice on the Company’s complex agreement with Red Dog landowner NANA.
