Bruce Lithgow is a Managing Director in our Midwest Partner Practice Group. He focuses on representing individual partners and partner groups in the lateral marketplace as well as law firms engaging in mergers and group acquisitions. Bruce's 17 years of combined experience practicing law in Chicago at a boutique firm, a full-service regional firm, and a major global law firm provides him with unique market and practical insights that allow him to give expert advice to law firm partners navigating the lateral partner market and law firms exploring potential mergers and acquisitions. He leverages his unique insights to connect with law firm partners facing obstacles at their current firm, to pinpoint the most significant impediments to success and security, and to identify new platforms where they can better build their practice, service their clients, and achieve personal and professional satisfaction.
Bruce lives in the Chicago suburb of Clarendon Hills with his wife, Beth, a partner in the Chicago office of a major global law firm, and their three children. In his spare time, Bruce enjoys sports and other activities with his family, poker, traveling, reading, culinary adventures, and actively participating in community and alumni affairs.
Over the course of his 17-year career practicing law, Bruce was a partner at both Baker & McKenzie and Bell, Boyd & Lloyd (now K&L Gates) and an associate at Sperling & Slater, a litigation boutique. He was actively involved in recruiting at both Baker & McKenzie and Bell, Boyd, serving as the lead on-campus recruiter at the University of Chicago and as an active Recruiting Committee member for many years.
During his years at Major, Lindsey & Africa, Bruce has worked on multiple office openings and mergers and made significant placements – including large groups – at numerous firms, including Sidley Austin, Paul Hastings, Jones Day, Winston & Strawn, Mayer Brown, Greenberg Traurig, Perkins Coie, McGuireWoods, Duane Morris, Akerman, Kelley Drye, Honigman, Faegre Baker Daniels, Fox Rothschild, Seyfarth Shaw, Vedder Price, Quarles & Brady, Barnes & Thornburg and many others.
