Melinda Wallman is the founder of the London and Hong Kong offices of Major, Lindsey & Africa. She led our international expansion until 2009 and is now in charge of our EMEA Partner Practice Group. Melinda's practice spans senior level search on behalf of Law Firms and Financial Institutions and Partner/Team representation.
Melinda has particular expertise in the alternative investment management space. In 2009, she launched, "Managing your Career: the XX Advantage," a network and quarterly breakfast seminar series for senior women lawyers. She also sits on MLA’s Diversity Council. She is known for her expertise in diversity search and her commitment to making every search matter.
Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa in New York in 1999, Melinda was a corporate lawyer at Gilbert & Tobin, Sydney, then she commenced her search career with a major British consultancy in London, opening their Sydney office and developing their cross-border UK-Australia business. She has worked as a search consultant in London, Hong Kong, New York and Sydney.
Melinda has placed partners into many AmLaw 100, Magic and Silver Circle law firms including Allen & Overy; Ashurst; Cleary Gottlieb; Herbert Smith Freehills; Gibson Dunn; Linklaters; Milbank Tweed; Morrison Foerster; Norton Rose Fulbright; Paul Hastings; Proskauer Rose; Ropes & Gray; Schulte, Roth & Zabel; Sidley Austin; Skadden Arps; Weil Gotshal and Wilkie Farr.
She has opened offices for law firms in London, Cologne, Hong Kong, Munich, Shanghai and Singapore.
She has placed general counsel, heads of compliance and other senior legal and compliance professionals with many investment management funds and other financial institutions including: Bain Capital; BlackRock; Cheyne Capital; Credit Suisse; Farallon Capital; Horizon Asset; Jefferies; J.P. Morgan; and Silver Lake Partners.
She has also completed senior-level searches for US and UK multinationals including: BT; GE; and Smith & Nephew.
