Russell Reid is a Managing Director in the Partner Practice Group in our New York office, where he focuses on representing individual partners and partner groups in the lateral marketplace as well as law firms engaging in mergers, group acquisitions and office openings.
Russell divides his time between New York City and Washington, D.C. He also travels frequently to Texas to visit his children, William and Elizabeth, both students at the University of Texas at Austin.
Russell is a former law firm partner with 25 years of AmLaw 100 experience. He focused his practice on complex financial transactions and restructurings, high stakes litigation and intellectual property and technology matters for domestic and international clients, with substantial representation of banks and financial institutions. Russell began his legal career in the litigation group of Vinson & Elkins’ Dallas office, where he was elevated to equity partner. He then moved to Akin Gump in Dallas, then New York, as a member of the firm’s financial restructuring practice. He later joined Sheppard Mullin, where he served as managing partner of the firm’s New York and London offices. In this capacity, Russell led lateral hiring and the firm’s initiative to define its strategy for serving the UK/EU market.
Most recently, Russell served as global general counsel and head of the Americas’ business unit for the Hemsley Fraser Group, an international learning and development company providing face-to-face, digital and blended learning solutions. From the company’s D.C. office, he led domestic, cross-border and transnational matters, including restructuring the US talent mix and managing worldwide licensing of new product lines.
