In an era where law firm dissolutions and the revolving door of partnerships are par for the course, law firm executives must uphold their fiduciary duty to ensure that their current employee compensation model is suitably bespoke. This conversation looks inward to examine whether or not law firms are deploying the best compensation model for their talent. Talent acquisition is expensive. Is entering the salary wars, whether for operations/business professionals or for associates and laterals, truly the best approach for members of the AmLaw 200? Have law firms done enough to align a culture where client service and “smart collaboration” (to borrow a phrase from Dr. Heidi K. Gardner) coalesce with individual performance?
