Clyde & Co Launches Program To Level Gender Imbalance

Michele Gorman LAW360.COM

Law360 (January 7, 2019, 8:26 PM EST) -- Clyde & Co LLP on Monday launched a new global training program geared primarily toward its female lawyers to increase gender balance in its marketing, communications and business development activities as part of its efforts to present a more diverse brand to its clients.

The global law firm's initiative strives to provide all of its lawyers — but especially its female attorneys and senior staff — with training to help them develop the skills needed to confidently promote their expertise, as well as the business. It includes training in social media, on-camera interviews, writing for offline and online audiences, creating a personal brand and effective networking.

With more awareness of the overall low numbers of female partners and discrepancy in pay, Stephanie Biderman, managing director in the associate practice group of global legal recruiting firm Major, Lindsey & Africa LLC, said she's seeing a renewed emphasis on women's business development efforts and affinity groups. She credited Clyde & Co for being more forward-thinking in its focus on the impact social media can have on raising lawyers' profiles.

The firm said it will administer its training through its learning and development and communications teams, and will add the program to its career development framework. It will make changes based on the progress it tracks throughout each quarter of the year.
