Katherine Karl has taken over as general counsel and chief legal officer at The Humane Society of the United States.
Recently, she was deputy general counsel of the American Cancer Society, and worked at Caplin & Drysdale, where she focused on nonprofit organizations. Earlier, she was an aide to Sen. Ted Kennedy and worked for the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
In selecting Karl to replace Roger Kindler, the Humane Society was assisted by Major, Lindsey & Africa, the legal recruiting firm, which donated its services pro bono.
