The general counsel will lead the internal legal function for ALDF, work closely with the executive team and provide stewardship of ALDF’s internal legal affairs. The general counsel will collaborate with the CEO, board and executive team on a regular basis and provide legal counsel on all internal matters related to the operation of the organization.
“We are honored and privileged to partner with the Animal Legal Defense Fund on its search for its next general counsel. Given the critical role ALDF plays in the community and the emerging field of animal law, it will be vital to identify an exceptional lawyer committed to helping the organization with its cause,” said Andrea Bricca. “A broad-based legal background, understanding of non-profit legal issues and experience with labor and employment matters as well as commercial contracts will be critical for success.”
The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s mission is to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. The ALDF accomplishes this mission by filing high-impact lawsuits to protect animals from harm, providing free legal assistance and training to prosecutors to assure that animal abusers are held accountable for their crimes, supporting tough animal protection legislation and fighting legislation harmful to animals and providing resources and opportunities to law students and professionals to advance the emerging field of animal law. Founded in 1979, ALDF has grown to include a staff of 75 with a $15 million annual budget, and its groundbreaking efforts to push the U.S. legal system to end the suffering of abused animals are supported by thousands of dedicated attorneys, hundreds of law firms, and more than 300,000 members and supporters.
