Hanover, MD (March 1, 2019) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world's leading legal search firm, today announced that Otis Grigsby joined MLA’s Houston office as an Austin-based director in the Partner Practice Group. Otis will help individual partners and groups navigate the Texas lateral marketplace.
“Otis is a talent agent for exceptional attorneys,” said David Maurer, executive director, partner practice group. “His background as a general counsel and a former NFL defensive end coupled with his IP, data privacy and securities compliance experience present a rare set of skills in the legal recruiting industry. We are excited our partner candidates and law firm clients will benefit from Otis’ experience and are delighted he has joined the firm.”
Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa, Otis served as the general counsel of Player's Health, a tech start-up focused on offering risk management software and insurance to sports organizations. In this role, he managed intellectual property protection, oversaw data privacy and securities compliance, and interpreted complex laws, regulations and corporate governance best practices.
Before attending law school, Otis spent six years playing professional football on the active rosters of the Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, and Minnesota Vikings.
He began his legal career practicing trademark, copyright, corporate, data privacy and securities law at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP (Cincinnati) before moving to Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP (Austin) and focusing on technology transactions.
“Team-building is a passion of mine. As an NFL player, large law firm associate and GC at a sports-health tech start-up, I developed an ability to relentlessly pursue success while helping my teammates along the way,” said Otis. “I know a great teammate when I see one, and my position at Major, Lindsey & Africa allows me to identify great teammates who will help law firms drive growth and innovation around the world.”
In addition to his role as a legal recruiter, Otis spends time speaking publicly on sports performance and wellness enhancement related to bio-electromagnetic energy regulation as well as mentoring at-risk youths, athletes, professionals, and start-up founders.
Otis earned his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law and his B.A. also from the University of Kentucky.
