Between the Legal Lines — Nicole Stanton

Two years ago, Nicole Stanton took the leap in-house, taking not only a new challenge in a business role but also a new challenging industry. In this episode of Between the Legal Lines, Nicole shares with Andrea Bricca what it’s been like moving from law firm life to in-house life and how doing so for a unique cannabis company has stretched her as a lawyer and professional.

Nicole is currently Vice President & General Counsel for Harvest overseeing the company’s growing legal division and leading efforts to develop ethical best practices to position Harvest as the foremost vertically integrated cannabis company in the U.S.. In her role, Nicole navigates state regulations and provides counsel on national cannabis legality and policy approaches.

Prior to her role at Harvest, Nicole held the position of managing partner in the Phoenix office of Quarles & Brady while simultaneously serving as the firm’s assistant general counsel. As a veteran legal and ethics expert, Stanton was responsible for overseeing more than 100 lawyers and 75 professional legal staff in Phoenix, covering 11 different legal practice areas. Her practice has been in commercial litigation and real estate. Her storied success as defense counsel for several local and national law firms, along with representing accounting firms, financial institutions and insurance brokers, has garnered her an established and credible reputation across business practices.

Nicole is also highly invested in the Phoenix community, not only as the former First Lady of Phoenix but as a committed civic servant in her own right. She has spearheaded a statewide anti-bullying initiative called Stop Bullying AZ (now the Dion Initiative), teaches professional responsibility courses at Arizona State University, has served on many nonprofit boards and has received several awards for her business and community service activities.
