Carl Hopkins

Carl Hopkins is a Partner in the Partner Practice Group in the Asia Pacific region (ex Japan).

Carl is a Hong Kong Permanent Resident and has been based in our Hong Kong office since 2007. He specializes in partner-level search and recruitment as well as assisting US and UK firms establishing offices in Asia (14 offices across the region to date).

Since making the transition from private practice to legal search in January 2005, Carl has placed partners both in and out of leading US and UK Magic Circle firms in London and Asia. He has a particular expertise in placing partners with corporate, private equity, investment funds, FCPA, litigation and finance backgrounds.

Experience

Carl began his legal career as an attorney in private practice, specializing in real estate law. After five years, he transitioned into legal search working for a boutique search firm based in London. Carl has worked exclusively as a specialist law firm partner recruiter for more than 16 years.

Carl has placed more than 90 partners in Asia, many as part of substantial team moves, this includes more than 10 in Beijing, 9 in Shanghai, 5 in Singapore and the remainder in Hong Kong. Examples of his work include assisting:

These mandates involved both strategic advice and consulting on entry into a new market in conjunction with the placement of managing partners, partners and their teams to initially staff and grow those offices. Carl also has assisted a number of US firms in establishing their Hong Kong Law practices.
