New York, NY – (April 11, 2018) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world's leading legal search firm, announced today the launch of its 2018 Partner Compensation Survey, the fifth study of partner compensation conducted by the firm. The survey is being sent to more than 60,000 law firm partners across the United States. It builds upon the groundbreaking 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 surveys, the most comprehensive efforts ever undertaken to identify ranges of partner compensation, the criteria law firms use to determine partner compensation, and the satisfaction of law firm partners with their compensation and compensation systems.
The online survey, which is completely anonymous and confidential, was developed by Jeffrey A. Lowe, Global Practice Leader of MLA's Law Firm Practice and Managing Partner of the firm's Washington, D.C. office. The survey will be distributed in partnership with Acritas Research, a specialist legal research agency.
"Over the last eight years, the Partner Compensation Survey has become an essential benchmark for the legal industry, offering partners and firms alike data, analysis and recommendations they can use to create clarity and equity in their compensation structures,” said Lowe. “This year, in addition to measuring metrics such as billable hours, compensation and originations, we have added a number of questions that address the gender pay gap and the means firms are taking to address that issue. We expect a robust response to this survey from both equity and non-equity partners across the country, and we look forward to sharing the results with the entire legal community in September 2018."
