Hanover, MD (October, 23, 2018) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world's leading legal search firm, today announced that Russell Reid has joined as a managing director in the Partner Practice Group, based in the firm's New York Office. Russell represents individual partners and partner groups in the lateral marketplace as well as law firms engaging in mergers, group acquisitions and office openings.
“We are delighted to welcome Russell to our highly successful New York City team,” said Laurie Caplane, senior executive director and managing partner of Law Firm Partner Search. “As a former law firm partner with 25 years of AmLaw experience, Russell has a distinct advantage when evaluating law firms’ talent requirements and partner candidates due to his own long and successful career in the law firm and in-house world.”
Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa, Russell was a global general counsel and head of the Americas’ business unit for Hemsley Fraser Group, based in Washington, D.C. He led domestic, cross-border and transnational matters, including restructuring the U.S. talent mix and managing worldwide licensing of new product lines.
“Having spent the last 10 years focused on talent acquisition in both a law firm and corporate setting, I’m looking forward to combining that experience with the vast resources now available to me at MLA,” said Russell. “I’m thrilled to be part of the dynamic New York team of this industry leader, with an eye on D.C. and Dallas as well.”
Russell began his legal career in the litigation group of Vinson & Elkins’ Dallas office, where he was elevated to equity partner. He then moved to Akin Gump in Dallas, then New York, as a member of the firm’s financial restructuring practice. He later joined Sheppard Mullin, where he served as managing partner of the firm’s New York and London offices. In this capacity, Russell led lateral hiring and the firm’s initiative to define its strategy for serving the UK/EU market.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law and his B.B.A and B.F.A. in journalism from Southern Methodist University.
