Sonya Olds Som of Major, Lindsey & Africa Named to Board of Minority In-House Counsel Association

MIHCA is committed to representing in-house counsel of color and corporations with the challenges of diversity in the legal profession

NEW YORK (September 8, 2016) — Major, Lindsey & Africa, the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced that Sonya Olds Som, a managing director in the Chicago office, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Minority In-House Counsel Association (MIHCA). MIHCA ( works to promote the professional development, networking and career advancement of minority in-house counsel; to enable minority in-house counsel to recruit other lawyers of color; and to further increase diversity in the legal profession — especially in corporations. As a member of the board, Sonya will continue to spearhead Major, Lindsey & Africa’s participation in MIHCA, including the next MIHCA conference in Chicago in October 2016:

Sonya is primarily responsible for strategizing and leading networking, business development and marketing initiatives for Major, Lindsey & Africa’s in-house practice group in the Midwest. She focuses on sourcing attorney search opportunities for attorneys at all levels – from junior counsel to general counsels — in corporate legal departments in a wide range of industries by creating and developing relationships with general counsel, human resources leaders and other C-Suite executives.

Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa in 2010 Sonya was an immigration attorney at several national and regional law firms, including Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker; Butzel Long; Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Lowey; Dykema Gossett; and Laner Muchin where she served as partner and immigration department chair.
