Lateral Partner Satisfaction Survey 2014

The 2014 edition of the Lateral Partner Satisfaction Survey was sent to more than 57,000 law firm partners across the United States and abroad. Respondents weighed in on a wide variety of issues, including their reasons for leaving their firm, factors weighed in choosing a new firm, changes in compensation after moving, integration into their new firm, overall satisfaction with their move  and a host of other topics. The 60-page Report analyzes the findings and discusses the implications for both law firms and the laterals who join them.

The Survey followed our ground-breaking 1996 Lateral Partner Satisfaction Survey (mailed to nearly 1,200 partners across the United States), which for the first time ever gave firm partners the opportunity to share their views on the lateral partner hiring and integration process. It was followed by the 2007 Major, Lindsey & Africa Lateral Partner Satisfaction Survey, with surveys sent to 5,622 lateral partners.

The 2014 Survey was sponsored and developed by Major, Lindsey & Africa and conducted in association with ALM Legal Intelligence (ALI), a research arm of ALM Media, publisher of The American Lawyer. All responses were submitted only to ALI,  allowing respondents to answer confidentially and anonymously, and at no time was Major, Lindsey & Africa made aware of respondent's names or firms, either individually or in the aggregate.
