MLA Places William Langston as Assistant Corporate Secretary for Carrier

Hanover, MD (February 20, 2020) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of William Langston as assistant corporate secretary for Carrier in its new Palm Beach Gardens, FL, headquarters. The search was conducted by Anne Jennings and Katelyn Braun, both managing directors within MLA’s Interim Legal Talent group in New York and Basking Ridge, respectively.

Carrier, a leading global provider of innovative heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC); refrigeration; fire; security and building automation technologies, is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), soon to be spun-off into a separate public company. Carrier’s world headquarters is the first commercial building in Florida to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Platinum v4 certification. The Platinum rating – the highest designation – was awarded under the stringent version 4 LEED green building program for building design and construction from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Reporting to the vice president, corporate secretary and counsel, Will will support the execution of the secretarial function of Carrier, its divisions and subsidiaries and provide legal oversight, counsel and support for corporate disclosure matters as well as legal advice and support for its corporate financing transactions. He will also act as counsel and be responsible for compliance with federal and state securities laws and regulations and Carrier’s legal activities in the areas of financial controls and reporting, disclosure controls and procedures, corporate finance transactions, and Treasury operations.

“This was a competitive national search. Because of Will’s extensive experience in the corporate secretarial function, he stood out from the beginning as the best choice to serve as Carrier’s next assistant corporate secretary,” said Annie Jennings. “He brings the right background to the table to strategically advise Carrier in this critical time of transition to a public company.”

Before joining Carrier, Will spent almost two decades in corporate and private practice. He most recently served as assistant general counsel for Hertz, routinely interacting with the board of directors and senior executive officers, while responsible for the company’s reporting and compliance function plus corporate governance, executive compensation, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. Prior to Hertz, he acted of counsel for Wachtel Missry LLP and practiced law at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP and Kramer, Levin, Naftalis & Frankel LLP.

Will earned his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law and his B.A. from Rice University.
