John A. Cashman Partner and Vice President - Law Firm Recruiting

John Cashman

Helping partners find the perfect career opportunity—and helping law firms grow with important lateral acquisitions—is the best job someone can have in the legal industry. Helping both partners and firms achieve their personal and professional goals is incredibly satisfying and I am grateful for the opportunity to help our recruiters, candidates and clients succeed and thrive in this complex and fast moving industry.

John A. Cashman is a Partner and the Vice President for Law Firm Recruiting, based in our Chicago office. As the manager of Law Firm Recruiting globally, John is responsible for all aspects of strategy and implementation regarding recruiting partners, associates and professionals on behalf of law firms. During his career as a legal search consultant at Major, Lindsey & Africa, John focused his practice on representing individual partners in the lateral marketplace, practice group acquisitions and law firm mergers. His clients include many of the country's best national and international law firms, large public and private companies and numerous regional and local law firms in the Midwest and elsewhere.

John's prior experience as an M&A partner at a major international law firm is a tremendous asset to both clients and candidates. John brings to his work as a legal search consultant a sophisticated understanding of the issues faced by law firms and partners in building, evaluating and moving practices.

John lives in the Chicago suburb of Clarendon Hills with his wife, Christi, who is a real estate partner at a major Chicago law firm, and their children. In his spare time, John reads and plays golf.

Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa, John was a corporate partner in the Chicago office of Winston & Strawn. Before attending law school, John was a vice president at City National Bank in Beverly Hills, Calif.

John has placed dozens of partners and groups with major national and international firms, represented several boutique law firms in mergers with major national law firms and assisted national firms in opening Chicago offices.
