Bouncing Back with Josh Smith

Throughout Josh Smith’s career—even from the moment he selected a college—his path has been filled with decision points. In this episode of Bouncing Back, he talks to Rebecca Glatzer about those crossroads and how he had to push past his comfort zone and take a leap of faith multiple times to get to where he is today.


Josh Smith is serves as General Counsel of Newpark’s Fluids Division and its Chief IP Counsel.  Newpark Fluids is a worldwide provider of drilling, completion and stimulation fluids to the oil and gas market.  Josh has been at Newpark for almost four years, where his diverse practice includes real estate, business and technology transactions, employment and intellectual property.  Previously, Josh was at Schlumberger in Houston focusing on technology related legal issues, after practicing at McDonald Hopkins in the corporate department focusing on intellectual property litigation and patent and trademark prosecution.

Josh received his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Dayton and his J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of law. He enjoys the international aspect of his diverse practice, including the legal challenges that come with operating in developing countries.
