MLA Places Beth Littrell As Senior Staff Attorney Special Litigation At Southern Poverty Law Center

Hanover, MD (August 16, 2018) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced that Beth Littrell has been placed as Senior Staff Attorney, Special Litigation at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) in Montgomery, Alabama. The search was led by Melba Hughes and Ilene Rosh of Major, Lindsey & Africa’s In-House Practice group in Atlanta.

In her new role, Littrell will drive SPLC’s litigation efforts in federal and state courts throughout the country, defending the vulnerable communities with whom it works, and expand the protections and civil rights of its clients. As Senior Attorney, she will litigate impact cases and carry out other legal advocacy to advance equality for LGBTQ people and to address civil rights abuses, with a particular emphasis on litigation against hate groups and those who commit tortious acts against members of vulnerable communities, including racial and religious minorities and the LGBTQ community; and devise creative legal strategies to undermine the influence and effectiveness of hate groups.

Prior to joining SPLC, Littrell served at Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund for 11 years – first as a Staff Attorney, then as Senior Attorney, and since 2015, she was Counsel. During her tenure she served as the Parent & Child Strategist and as the Racial Justice and Low-Income Advocacy Strategist. Lambda Legal is the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV. Littrell began her career at the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia in 2001 – first as a Staff Attorney and subsequently as Associate Legal Director. She is a frequent guest lecturer at various law schools and universities, and with the Family Law Institute. Last year, she was honored by the Fulton Daily Report as a Distinguished Leader.
