Hanover, MD (December 20, 2021) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Amelia “Amy” Kalil as general counsel at Yamaha Motor Ventures & Laboratory Silicon Valley (YMVSV) in Palo Alto, Calif. The search was led by Tam T.T. Pham, managing director with MLA’s In-House Counsel Recruiting group in San Francisco.
Reporting directly to the CEO and managing director, Hajime Aota, Amy will oversee all legal activities from reviewing and negotiating venture capital financing documents to working with YMVSV’s business teams and portfolio companies to structure commercial relationships and provide long-term strategic support.
Yamaha Motor Ventures & Laboratory Silicon Valley is the corporate venturing and strategic business development arm of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, a global manufacturer of motorcycles, boats, recreational vehicles, industrial robots, unmanned helicopters and other motorized products.

Amy most recently served as counsel for Scale, LLP, advising early-stage companies on corporate and transactional matters, including M&A, venture capital and private equity investments, as well as debt and equity financing rounds. Prior to Scale, she was global head of M&A at Cisco Systems, where she led the M&A, venture capital and corporate development team; and director and senior counsel with UBS Securities, LLC where she served as head of M&A legal. She began her legal career as an M&A associate with Shearman, Sterling LLP. Amy earned her J.D. from Indiana University School of Law, her M.A. from New York University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and her B.A. from Michigan State University.
