Hanover, MD (July 12, 2022) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world's leading legal search firm, today announced that Michael Kornak has joined as a managing director in the Partner Practice Group based in the firm's Chicago office. Drawing on his extensive experience as the co-head of recruiting at Freeborn & Peters, Mike helps partners, partner groups and law firms navigate the lateral recruiting marketplace.
“We are thrilled Mike decided to join the Chicago Partner Practice Group,” said David Maurer, executive director for Law Firm Partner Search. “He has extensive firsthand knowledge of all aspects of partner recruiting, including compensation and conflicts analysis, and can adeptly identify opportunities as well as potential issues for both partners and firms. We are excited that our law firm clients and partner candidates will benefit from Mike’s experience.”
Before joining Major, Lindsey & Africa, Mike was a litigation partner at Freeborn & Peters, where he represented his clients in federal and state courts across the country. Mike was involved in recruiting at Freeborn for over 20 years and served as one of the firm’s hiring partners. While at Freeborn, he was also a member of the firm’s professional review committee, a work-allocation partner and the head of the firm’s closely-held business practice group.
“As a former law firm hiring partner, I worked with MLA for over 10 years and was always impressed with the team’s integrity, professionalism and unsurpassed knowledge of the lateral market,” said Mike. “I’m excited to now be joining that team and utilizing my extensive recruiting experience to help both partners and law firms analyze and obtain their goals.”
Earlier in his career, Mike worked at Kirkland & Ellis and he clerked for the Honorable Alice M. Batchelder, Circuit Judge, United States Circuit Court for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois and his B.S. from Indiana University.
