Hanover, MD (February 18, 2020) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Fatema F. Zanzi as senior vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The search was led by Michael Sachs, partner, and Casey Gordon, director, in MLA’s In-House Counsel Recruiting team, both based in Chicago.

Lurie Children’s provides superior pediatric care in a setting that offers the latest benefits and innovations in medical technology, research and family-friendly design. As the largest pediatric provider in the region with a 136-year legacy of excellence, kids and their families are at the center of all that the organization does.

Reporting directly to the president and CEO, Fatema will serve as advisor to various medical center boards of directors and their committees, while also providing legal counsel to senior management on such matters as regulatory requirements, transactions, contracts and potential liability. She will also provide strategic direction and leadership of the legal services department, allocate legal resources, and coordinate and oversee legal matters referred to external counsel.

“Fatema will make a terrific addition to the Lurie Children’s team,” said Michael Sachs. “Her passion, drive and enthusiasm, combined with her extensive knowledge of the dynamic healthcare industry, makes her an ideal fit within the Lurie Children’s culture and someone who can help this Chicago institution continue to be a leader in worldwide pediatric care.”

Fatema has more than 20 years of experience as a healthcare corporate and regulatory lawyer. Most recently, she served as office partner for Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP’s Chicago office and as partner within its Health group, providing strategic counseling on the corporate, transactional and regulatory matters that make it possible for healthcare providers and suppliers to meet their business and service objectives. Fatema started her career as an attorney with Drinker Biddle & Reath, where she was later elevated to partner. She is currently the chair of the Children’s Health Affinity Group of the American Health Lawyers Association.

Fatema earned her J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and her B.A. from Northwestern University.
