Briggs and Morgan to Combine with Taft Stettinius & Hollister, Creating a Super-Regional Firm and Expanding Taft’s Footprint in the Midwest

Hanover, MD (September 5, 2019)—Major, Lindsey & Africa, the world’s leading search firm, confirmed today that Minneapolis-based Briggs and Morgan has agreed to merge with Taft Stettinius & Hollister, a Midwest firm with large offices in Indianapolis, Chicago and Cincinnati. The newly combined firm – with more than 600 attorneys and 12 offices – will take the Taft name and is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2020. Brian McMahon, managing director with Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Partner Practice Group in Minneapolis, facilitated this combination.

The Twin Cities, and Minneapolis specifically, remains a popular destination for national and regional firms. Taft is the fourth national/regional firm to enter this market this year, and the eighth firm to do so since 2016.

“I know Briggs lawyers and its leadership well from when I was practicing law in the Twin Cities and now as a recruiter,” said McMahon. “And I have gotten to know Taft and its leadership well over the past two years, and these firms are a perfect match.  Taft executes mergers very well, integrates its new lawyers exceedingly well, and grows in the new markets they enter.  Taft grants each of its offices a tremendous amount of autonomy.  We at MLA are excited to have brought these great firms together, and we are certain that great things lie ahead for Taft here in Minneapolis and throughout Taft’s platform.”

This is the second combination brokered by MLA in Minneapolis this summer. Last month, it brokered immigration boutique Webber Law Firm LLC’s move to Dorsey & Whitney.
