MLA Places Lei Liu as Chief Legal Counsel, China at Condé Nast

Hanover, MD (April 6, 2020) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, announced the placement of Lei Liu as chief legal counsel, China at Condé Nast, the global media company. The search was led by Jack McDouall of Allegis-BN, MLA’s China affiliate.  

As chief legal counsel, Lei will be responsible for leading and shaping the company’s approach to legal matters in China. She will serve as an active member of the senior management team and advise the China leadership team in the development of policy and strategy.

Commenting on the appointment, Jack McDouall said, “Lei is an assertive and results-driven senior lawyer with a strong understanding, passion and knowledge of the media and entertainment industry. Lei is a natural leader, and her experience in different business environments and cultures in China will serve to her advantage at Condé Nast.”

An experienced legal counsel, Lei joins the Conde Nast team from NBA China, where she served as senior legal director focused on IP licensing, IP protection, content production and content distribution. Previously, she was chief compliance officer and acting head of legal with NBCUniversal where she led the establishment of a company compliance system in Beijing. Prior to this, she served as greater china chief legal counsel at Nielsen and general counsel at Oriental DreamWorks.

Qualified to practice law in China and in the U.S., Lei earned her Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Vanderbilt University Law School and her Bachelor of Laws from Shanghai University Law School.
