A BigLaw Partner's Mental Health Journey

Following from our recent Asia-Pacific panel discussion on mental health in the law, we were thrilled to host a private audience with Chris Parsons.

In a one-on-one chat with Olivia Seet, we explored mental health through the lens of Chris’s personal journey to recovery. We take an honest look at his struggle with alcoholism, addiction, depression and mental health and how this affects those in the law and legal leadership. An empathetic and charismatic speaker, Chris is passionate about mental health and wellbeing. Having suffered from serious mental health issues himself, he is acutely aware of the stigma that surrounds the topic.  By sharing his own personal story, he aims to reduce this stigma and treat it exactly as physical health.

Chris has been with Herbert Smith Freehills for nearly 35 years and served as chairman of the India Practice for the last 15 years. He has completed an intensive programme in Psychotherapy at Regents University in London and is also a trustee of MQ Mental Health, a leading mental health research charity in the UK.

If you’d like to hear more on the matter, you can also hear Chris speak on our podcast, Erasing the Stigma.
