Amy Carlin is a Boston-based Director on our In-House Counsel Recruiting team who works with legal departments to build better legal teams. Amy’s nearly two decades of experience as an employment lawyer and litigator makes her an effective and trusted partner to clients looking to add best-fit legal talent. Working across a variety of industries, she understands the importance of taking the time to understand the client’s operations and culture to identify a successful match in skills and personality.

Amy lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her husband and her two middle-school aged daughters. She has a deep love of music, and whenever there is an opportunity to dance, she will take it (at times to the embarrassment of her daughters)! Early career days spent in the restaurant industry infused her with a passion for food and restaurants, and she loves the dining out experience. She also enjoys cooking, playing tennis and listening to podcasts while on a good walk. A few of her favorite podcasts are Brene Brown’s “Unlocking Us,” Layla Saad’s “Good Ancestor Podcast,” “Broken Record with Rick Rubin” and the New Yorker Fiction podcast.

Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa, Amy was a partner with Morgan, Brown & Joy, LLP in Boston. She started with the firm in 2005 as an employment litigation associate and was elected partner in 2011. Before that, Amy worked as an associate attorney at two different plaintiff-side firms representing labor unions and individual employees.

During her 20+ years of experience practicing employment law, Amy became a trusted advisor to business owners, C-level executives and human resources professionals on all aspects of the employer-employee relationship. She provided daily counsel to business leaders, guiding them through thorny and complex employment issues. She developed and delivered training programs on harassment and discrimination prevention, effective leadership practices for managers and a range of other mission-critical employment topics. Amy litigated cases and defended clients in discrimination and retaliation claims, wage and hour complaints, and other employment-related federal and state law claims. She represented clients in settlement negotiations and excelled in achieving positive results for her clients through mediation.

Amy was the chair of Morgan, Brown & Joy’s diversity, equity and inclusion committee. She is a member of the Cambridge Public School’s affinity group for parents, “White Caregivers Working Toward Anti-Racism,” and she attended and graduated from Kendall Square Association’s “Inclusion Drives Innovation” anti-racism professional program in 2020. She also ran her firm’s intern program and headed the firm’s annual client seminar committee.

For the past decade, Amy has been a proud member of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association and was a frequent public speaker at educational programs for restaurants and other related businesses on employment law issues relevant to the industry.

Since 2019, Amy has worked with Northeastern School of Law’s Women in the Law Conference as a co-chair in planning and producing this annual conference, which provides career guidance and professional development growth to women attorneys and other professionals at all stages in their careers. Last year’s conference theme was “All In: Reimagining Inclusive Workplaces” and included speakers such as Michele Coleman Mayes, vice president, general counsel and secretary of the New York Public Library, Nina Totenberg of NPR, and The Boston Globe editor and writer Shirley Leung.
