MLA Places Karen Eastmond as The MENTOR Network’s First Chief Compliance Officer

Hanover, MD (November 5, 2020) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Karen Eastmond as chief compliance officer at The MENTOR Network, headquartered in Boston. The search was conducted by Ron Ciardiello, managing director, and Robert Mannino, director, in MLA’s In-House Counsel Recruiting group in Boston.

Founded in 1980, The MENTOR Network is a health and human services provider in 37 states offering an array of quality, community-based services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain and spinal cord injuries and other catastrophic injuries and illnesses; youth with emotional, behavioral and medically complex challenges, as well as their families; and to elders in need of support.

As chief compliance officer, Karen will be tasked with evaluating all compliance efforts of the company, currently performed within four major functional areas—client services, finance, human resources and IT—and developing a multi-year plan with the goal of implementing a world-class compliance system.

“Karen was the ideal fit for The MENTOR Network’s first chief compliance officer as she is mission-driven and has an extensive healthcare compliance background,” said Ron Ciardiello. “Karen is ethical, agile and strategic, and she will add a diverse perspective to the C-suite and bring a genuine and executive presence that seamlessly fits with The MENTOR Network’s culture.”

Karen comes to The MENTOR Network with more than 20 years of compliance experience in the healthcare sector. She spent the last nine years with Centerlight Health System in the Bronx, New York, as chief compliance officer, where she oversaw the implementation of a system-wide compliance program for a health system that included Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs), Home Health Agencies (HHAs), Institute for Music & Neurological Function (IMNF), Article 28 clinics and a PACE health plan. Karen’s background also includes various leadership roles with MetroPlus Health Plan, AmeriChoice, UnitedHealth Group, GHI, Healthfirst and HIP.

Karen earned her M.B.A. from Baruch College/Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and her B.S. from Brooklyn College.
