locations:

Jon Lindsey is the New York founding partner of Major, Lindsey & Africa, voted the "Best Legal Recruiter" by the readers of the National Law Journal, "Best Legal Search Firm in the United States" in Worldlaw Business magazine's survey of the AmLaw 100 and "in a league apart" from other legal recruiters by The American Lawyer. He was the subject of an extensive profile in Of Counsel magazine and is one of a handful of legal recruiters to have been repeatedly included in Lawdragon's "100 Leading Legal Consultants and Strategists". In 2021 he was among the nine inductees in the Lawdragon's inaugural Hall of Fame for consultants to the legal profession.

Jon views his role as helping highly successful professionals choose the path that will best advance their careers and maximize their happiness. He seeks to provide outstanding service to the partners and law firms he works with, and to do so with integrity, intelligence, discretion and professionalism. As the former Global Co-Chair of our Partner Practice Group, Jon helped to set strategy and coordinate the partner practice for the firm's 20+ domestic and international offices.

After clerking for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Jon practiced with Debevoise & Plimpton, as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York, and as Deputy Counsel to the Department of City Planning and Counsel to the Chairman of New York City's Planning Commission.

Jon is the co-author of "Managing People In Today's Law Firm" (Quorum Books, 1995) and author of the 2020 MLA Lateral Partner Satisfaction Survey and numerous articles for The American Lawyer, Corporate Counsel Magazine, the National Law Journal, New York Law Journal, International Financial Law Review and others. He has been invited to speak by the American Management Association, the Federal Bar Council, the Association of General Counsel, PLI and others, on topics ranging from innovative law firm retention and partner compensation policies to best practices in staffing the global law department.

"Jon was a pleasure to work with – knowledgeable, professional, and experienced. In addition, he was just an all-around nice guy.  He made what would otherwise have been a stressful and chaotic process as painless and successful as I could have hoped. I am grateful for his wise and insightful counsel as I transitioned back to private practice."

Jeannie Rhee

Partner, Paul Weiss; former U.S. Deputy Assistant Attorney General and most recently a leading prosecutor in the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller

Over more than two decades, Jon has placed scores of partners and practice groups at many of the world's top law firms (ranging from global powerhouses such as Paul Weiss, Milbank Tweed, Gibson Dunn, and Freshfields, to highly profitable three-partner boutiques), assisted firms in numerous merger and branch office acquisitions, and conducted successful general counsel searches for corporations around the U.S.  Because of his own government service (as an AUSA and with the New York City Planning Commission), Jon also devotes a material portion of his practice to assisting senior, high-level lawyers transition from public service back to private practice.
