B.S.ing with Yasmin Cader

After spending her entire legal career fighting for the underdog, the offer to become the deputy legal director for the American Civil Liberties Union’s Trone Center for Justice and Equality was one Yasmin Cader could not refuse. In this episode of B.S.: Beyond Stereotypes, Yasmin chats with Merle Vaughn about injustices she’s navigated in the legal system, explains why she stands up for the rights of others and explores how we all are fundamentally connected.

Yasmin Cader
is the new deputy legal director for The Trone Center for Justice and Equality with the ACLU. Before joining the ACLU, Yasmin and her partner, Christine Adams, founded a woman-owned white-collar boutique in Los Angeles. As a former 23-year federal public defender, she has tried more than 30 criminal cases to resolution before juries and judges in state and federal courts in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C. At the Offices of the Federal Public Defender in the Southern District of New York and Los Angeles, Yasmin represented witnesses and individuals facing a variety of federal criminal charges, including homicide, sexual assault, drug racketeering, gun smuggling, corruption and complex white-collar criminal matters. While representing individuals in Washington, D.C., with the Public Defender Service, she defended juveniles and adults facing the most serious felony charges in Superior Court. Yasmin is also an experienced civil litigator. She began her career as a trial lawyer with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, where she litigated individual and class-action claims of sexual and racial harassment and discrimination. Prior to that, she served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Damon J. Keith, a civil rights icon. Yasmin is a graduate of Yale Law School and Howard University.
