MLA Places Amanda Barry as Head of Intellectual Property at Bolt Threads

Hanover, MD (February 1, 2022) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Amanda Barry as head of intellectual property at Bolt Threads in Emeryville, Calif. The search was conducted by Carol Warren Simon, partner, and Lina Guo, managing director, with MLA’s In-House Counsel Recruiting group in San Francisco.

Reporting to General Counsel Deanna Chechile, Amanda will serve as a key member of the legal team and set overall IP strategy and operations for the company. She will be responsible for managing and overseeing the full scope of IP matters and will work closely with other leaders cross-functionally to ensure that Bolt Thread’s IP and business strategies are well-aligned.

Bolt Threads is a privately held materials innovation company made up of scientists, engineers and consumer product experts who are using bioengineering to develop the next generation of performance materials and solve the problems of a resource-constrained world.  Through partnerships with companies such as Adidasand Stella McCartney, Bolt Threads is pushing the boundaries of sustainable and cutting-edge materials innovation.

Amanda spent the last 15+ years with The Proctor & Gamble Company (P&G), most recently serving as senior director, associate general counsel leading IP teams for P&G’s feminine care, new business unit, corporate functions and transformative platform technology groups. Prior to P&G, she was an associate with Mayer Brown in Chicago, handling pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechnical patent work. She began her legal career as an associate with Leydig, Voit & Mayer LLP. Before law school, Amanda was a research assistant at Warner-Lambert (Pfizer) in the Parke-Davis Research Division and Children’s Hospital Research Foundation in Molecular Cardio Biology. Amanda earned her J.D. from Michigan Law School, her M.S. in Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry & Microbiology from The University of Cincinnati and her B.S. from The University of Michigan.
