MLA Places Tom Lynch as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at BillionToOne

Hanover, MD (December 13, 2022) — Major, Lindsey & Africa (MLA), the world’s leading legal search firm, today announced the placement of Tom Lynch as general counsel and chief compliance officer at BillionToOne in Menlo Park, California. The search was led by Lina Guo, managing director with MLA’s In-House Counsel Recruiting group in San Francisco.

BillionToOne is a precision diagnostics company with the mission to make molecular diagnostics more accurate, efficient, and accessible to all. BillionToOne’s proprietary molecular counting platform can accurately count DNA molecules at the single-count level to help improve disease detection.

Tom will be responsible for advising and partnering with business leaders on a broad range of matters, including compliance, regulatory, corporate development, intellectual property and day-to-day contracting and legal matters. Reporting to the CEO, Oguzhan Atay, Tom will play a central role in facilitating senior management decision-making, acting as a business advisor to the leadership team.

Before joining BillionToOne, Tom served as vice president, chief compliance officer for the Advanced Healthcare Solutions segment at Fortive Corporation, where he led a global legal team in the recently established healthcare business segment consisting of five operating companies and a workforce of approximately 6,000 in over 100 countries. Over the past five-plus years, Tom has also been an adjunct law professor at University of St. Thomas Law School and Mitchell Hamline Law School. Tom’s background also includes public company general counsel roles at Nuwellis, Inc. (formerly CHF Solutions, Inc.) and Orexigen Therapeutics, Inc. He has also held senior legal roles at Alcon Laboratories, Novartis Pharma AG and Boston Scientific. Tom received his J.D. from Boston College Law School, his M.A. from the University of St. Thomas and his B.A. from Stanford University.
